How Username Changes Work
On Xisto, changing your username is a staff-assisted process. Unlike some modern platforms that allow self-service, Xisto requires users to submit a request due to system restrictions and to prevent abuse.
When You Might Need a Change
Common reasons include:
- Capitalization adjustments (as seen in many requests)
- Switching to a new brand or identity
- Correcting a typo made during registration
The Process
- Make a Request in the Account Support Forum: Create a new topic clearly stating your current username and the desired new name.
- Wait for Staff Approval: A moderator or admin will review your request. This typically happens within 24-48 hours.
- Verification: You may be asked to confirm your identity via your registered email or by posting a confirmation reply.
- Execution: Once approved, a staff member will manually update your username. You will receive a notification once it’s done.
Important Considerations
- Credit Cost: Some username changes may require a small deduction of forum credits (myCents) to discourage frequent changes. Check the current policy in the Announcements.
- Linked Accounts: If you use Xisto’s free web hosting, note that your cPanel username is separate from your forum username. Changing your forum name does not affect your hosting login.
- Post History: Your previous posts will remain under your new username. There is no loss of content.
- Frequency: Repeated changes are generally not allowed; choose a name you intend to keep.
Tips for Choosing a Username
- Keep it simple and memorable.
- Avoid numbers or symbols if possible.
- Ensure it aligns with Xisto’s content policy (no offensive terms).
